What is CHANGE the STORY?

As PEOPLE WHO POUR OUR LIVES INTO FOSTER CARE, MANY OF US HAVE BEEN PRIVILEGED TO HELP CHANGE the story of INDIVIDUAL CHILDREN.  BUT IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF WE CAME TOGETHER TO change the story of foster care in Washington state!

Change the Story is a movement... a new culture.

Through unity and mutual respect of all parties, we can create a better foster care system that improves outcomes for our most vulnerable children. With the launch of the Department of Children Youth and Families, we have a window of opportunity to come together to create an entirely new culture in foster care. Each individual’s role is unique and valuable and we must commit to a relationship of trust, respect and collaboration. Let’s come together and Change the Story!

What is the Purpose?

  • Establish a unified message, mission and commitment among the various members of the child welfare team to work together for change

  • Increase awareness of the launch of DCYF and clarify how the transition will impact foster care and foster parents in the short and long term.

  • Support DCYF and their goals in this transition

  • Introduce new leadership to foster parents through facebook interviews

    • Making leadership accessible to the foster parent community

    • Describing their new duties and roles and expressing intentions

    • Creating and encouraging a positive relationship between foster parents, and DCYF leadership and staff members.

  • Create conversations that provide real solutions to improve the foster parent experience and change the current narrative related to being a foster parent.

  • Unify all parties by focusing on our common passion to help children.
